#MovingForward - Women In Sport

2020 has been a year like no other. In the midst of a global pandemic, we have seen just how fragile of a position women’s sport is still placed in – with many elite women’s competitions cancelled, teams losing sponsorship and facilities closed.

But we have also seen a truly inspiring level of resilience among women and girls in sport, from the elite level to the grassroots. Sportswomen have spoken out against gender inequality and racism in the field, and girls have also made big change, starting petitions and campaigning for their right to the joy, fulfilment and lifelong benefits of sport.

A core aim of Women in Sport’s mission is to deeply understand the needs and aspirations of the full diversity of women and girls at each stage in their lives. This is why it is important to take the New Year as not only a moment to reflect, but also to look forward to how we can continue to advocate for what women and girls need from sport.

#MovingForward is about just this – connecting with women and girls in the sporting world to find out how they would like to see the sector keep up the momentum in the fight for women’s representation in sport.

We reached out to sportswomen, leaders of equality organisations, and women working in sport to see what their key hopes and goals are for 2021.

Now, we would love to hear from you. Whether it’s increased sponsorship for women’s professional teams, funding for grassroots clubs, tackling of gender stereotypes – or anything else – let us know how you’d like to see the game changed for women and girls in 2021!

Post your aspiration for women and girls’ on Instagram or Twitter and tag us, using the hashtag #MovingForward to be part of the conversation.

2020 was a tough year for us all, but let’s begin 2021 with increased vigour and determination to give each woman and girl the opportunity to take part in sport – and inspire her to do so.
