This three-hour workshop will focus on ‘leveraging influencers and role models for the benefit of sport for women and girls’. Discussions will centre on Women in Sports ground-breaking ‘What Sways Women to Play Sport?’ research (2015) and explore how this can be used to change sporting behaviours locally.

We will start the workshop by sharing our methodology and investigating the differences between role models and influencers in relation to women and girls in sport. We will then explore the main research findings, discussing the six spheres of influence and how they can interact with the behaviour change journey. Crucially, the second half of the workshop will focus on the activation of this research, we will examine how to utilise the spheres of influence to have a positive impact on local programmes and products.

The workshop will be very interactive in nature, involving individual and group tasks, while thinking about real examples. There will also be plenty of time for delegates to network and share good practice.

This workshop is aimed at sports development professionals including but not limited to; sports development officers, County Sport Partnership staff and NGB staff.
