Monies raised from the sale of the images in the Team SCA exhibition Journey of Change: Women Pushing Boundaries will be donated to Women in Sport. Grace Kitching from Women in Sport attended the exhibition opening.
Last week Women in Sport were invited to the Getty Images Gallery in London for the opening of Team SCA’s exhibition Journey of Change: Women Pushing Boundaries.
This exhibition includes photos of Team SCA from on board the yacht but also of photographs from the winners of the Team SCA Academy, a competition which was run in partnership with Getty Images to empower and engage female photographers.
All images are available to purchase and at Women in Sport, we’re proud to say that that the monies raised will be donated to our charity. It has been amazing to have the continued support of Team SCA, who also donated to Women in Sport the prize money they won racing at world famous sailing regatta Cowes Week in August.
So who are Team SCA? They are the first all-female team to compete in the Volvo Ocean Race in 12 years. The Volvo Ocean Race is one of the most demanding and challenging ocean yacht races in existence. Teams compete in a nine-leg race around the world, covering over 38,000 miles of the world’s most challenging oceans: an incredible feat!
A personal highlight of the evening, given that I have recently learnt to sail was meeting some of the crew, listening to their experiences, challenges and highlights, these women sacrificed a lot to compete at this level in a sport they love and I was totally in awe. We got to meet some of the wonderful photographers, hear their stories and have a glimpse of the women they met and photographed around the world.
I would definitely recommend taking some time out of Christmas shopping on Oxford Street to pop in and see the exhibition at the Getty Images Gallery, Eastcastle Street, London W1W 8DX. It’s on show until 12th December 2015 and is open Monday – Friday 10am-6.30pm and Saturday 12pm to 6pm.
