Responding to the news of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list announced today, the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation Chief Executive Ruth Holdaway said:
“We are delighted to see a number of sportswomen recognised today for their outstanding achievements across the world of sport. We would like to congratulate elite sportswomen golfer Laura Davis, England Cricket Captain Charlotte Edwards and England cricketer Jenny Gunn, Winter Olympics Gold medalist Lizzy Yarnold and Winter Paralympic Champions Kelly Gallagher and Charlotte Evans. We are also delighted to see BBC Director of Sport Barbara Slater recognised as well as Paralympic coach Jenny Archer.
This is a momentous day for women in sport, sending a clear message that sport is a place for women and girls from the field of play to the boardroom. This public recognition further serves to celebrate the fantastic role models we currently have in women’s sport, and inspire the next generation of athletes, coaches and business leaders.”
