An interview with Tove Okunniwa, London Sport CEO

Over the past few months, we have been working closely with Letesia Gibson from New Ways consulting to explore the experiences of women of colour working in sport. As part of our research into workplace culture, which is supported by Comic Relief, Letesia carried out a series of in-depth interviews with women in our Beyond 30% community, and wrote a series of three powerful blogs reflecting on what they shared.

These blogs explored the key topics of belonging, resilience and authentic leadership in the sports industry, which came up repeatedly during Letesia’s conversations with these phenomenal women.

To conclude this first stage of our journey in exploring the experiences of women of colour working in sport, we were delighted to be able to speak to a woman who is at the top of her game, and paving the way for others after her.

Tove Okunniwa was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of London Sport in September 2017, and has since spearheaded the organisation’s strides in pushing inclusion and participation in sport across the capital.

Before taking on her current role, Tove was Chief Executive of Havas Sport & Entertainment and Head of Marketing for BBC Sport. She is also serving as deputy chair of England Boxing – all of which has given her a wealth of personal and professional experience to share.
