Women in Sport announce new CEO

Women in Sport, the leading UK charity that researches sport purely from the perspective of women and girls, is delighted to announce the appointment of Stephanie Hilborne OBE as its new CEO.

Stephanie, currently Chief Executive at The Wildlife Trusts, has worked in nature conservation for over 20 years. She is a successful and passionate campaigner for change, driving developments in both policy and government legislation including the introduction of the Marine & Coastal Access Act 2009 and the visionary Natural Environment White Paper 2011.

As an experienced CEO, Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge to Women in Sport. She has been instrumental in changing opinions and behaviour, which will be vital for the next phase of Women in Sport’s work creating equal opportunities for women and girls in sport.

Stephanie believes in leaving the planet in a better state for future generations and is a strong advocate for the outdoors and active living. She understands the impact this can have on wellbeing and long-term health and believes strongly in the power of sport to empower women.

Women in Sport is excited about Stephanie’s appointment and is looking forward to bringing a range of stakeholder partnerships and relationships together, to ensure that all women and girls in the UK can experience the lifelong benefits of sport.

Jayne Haines, Chair of Women in Sport said, “We’re delighted that Stephanie is joining Women in Sport as our new Chief Executive. She brings with her considerable experience as a CEO as well as a strength in campaigning and leadership and we are confident that she will take the charity to the next phase of development. Next year is the 36th year since Women in Sport was founded, and we are excited about what lies ahead for this fantastic organisation with Stephanie at the helm.”

Stephanie Hilborne OBE said, “Sport is something I’m hugely passionate about; it was the centre of my life when I was young, and it taught me leadership, teamwork and resilience. After many years in the environment movement, I am delighted to have the opportunity to help Women in Sport with its mission to break down barriers to girls and women participating in sport, unimpeded by social expectations.”

Stephanie will join the Women in Sport team at the end of October 2019.
