The Mothership take on the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic row

November 2021

On the 12th of December 2021, Lebby, Jo, Pippa and Felicity are taking on the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, rowing 3000 miles from La Gomera to Antigua. Together they have christened the boat ‘The Mothership’.

All four women have reaped the benefits of sport and exercise throughout their lives, and are wanting to show their children, collectively 11 in total, that mothers can achieve extraordinary things, and they can too if they put their minds to it. They want to show the world that becoming a mother shouldn’t hold you back, instead it can give you the resilience to take on unimaginable things, like rowing the Atlantic. The grit and determination they need to cross the Atlantic was born out of sleepless nights looking after children and managing busy working lives while also taking care of their family’s needs.

They will be taking on sleepless nights, sea storms alongside the physical and mental battle to keep rowing. As a group they believe passionately in motivating women and girls to take part in sport, which has given them so much through their lives;

Lebby – “It’s a joy to find out just what our bodies are capable of. But I also love the camaraderie of being in a team and achieving something together and forming friendships with my teammates is one of the most important aspects of sport for me.”

Jo – “People don’t have to run marathons or row across the Atlantic to enjoy all the life-changing benefits of staying active and interacting with others and having fun away from screens.”

Pippa – “Through sport I have developed a healthy relationship with failure, a resilience, a determination, a deep knowledge that you get out what you put in, and joy.  Joy at being able to take part in some incredible events but above all, joy that I can do it.  I’ve carried lots of baggage with me through school that I wasn’t good enough – whether academically or in sport and I’ve learnt that it’s never too late.”

Felicity – “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and one I couldn’t turn down – a chance to push myself to the limit, physically and mentally, face whatever nature has to throw at us and raise money for our amazing charities.”

These four inspirational women have set it in their sights to fundraise for Women in Sport, alongside two other charities, through this epic challenge. To see more of their journey follow them on Twitter and Instagram, or to donate to please visit their fundraising page.
