Organisations all over the UK are putting on sessions and classes for Women’s Sport Week 2016. Here’s a taster of what’s going on.
Scotland – Scottish Rugby Backs Women’s Sport Week
Scottish clubs are welcoming new and returning players to free sessions throughout the week for women and girls who have thought about trying rugby and those who want to get back into it.

Portsmouth – Roller derby
Portsmouth women’s roller derby team Portsmouth Roller Wrenches, would like to invite you to try out roller derby.

London – Clip ‘n Climb Chelsea 3rd-7th Oct
Nationwide – British TriathlonFree 20 minute taster sessions in the climbing area (with a 10 minute safety briefing session beforehand)
Dates: 3/10; 4/10; 5/10; 6/10; 7/10
Sessions 12:00-12:30 12:30-13:00 13:00-13:30
- No experience necessary
- Healthy, action packed fun using a safe auto belay system
- 20 individual and multiclimber wall challenges of varying difficulty, designed to test agility and courage in different ways
- all equipment provided
- Loose clothing recommended, closed-toe footwear required
Any climber who would like to try one of the three special attractions at Clip ‘N Climb Chelsea during their taster session can buy a ticket (£5 per attraction). The proceeds of these ticket sales will be donated to Women in Sport
London – Chel-Ski 3rd-7th Oct
Offered to women aged 18+
Free 15 minute taster sessions (skiing or snowboarding) on the slopes
Dates: 3/10 – 7/10
Sessions: Between 12 noon and 2pm
- Perfect for all abilities
- Beginners will become familiar with the equipment and learn the fundamentals
- For the more experienced, we can increase the angle and speed of the slopes for a greater challenge
- All equipment provided
- Loose clothing and long socks (for a snug boot fit) recommended
Any participants who purchase a single session or 6 or 10-session bundle after the taster will be entitled to a 10% discount, and Chel-Ski will donate the difference between normal and discounted price to Women in Sport.
South Somerset – in it together 3rd-7th Oct
South Somerset’s ‘in it together’ project has lined up an impressive list of FREE taster session throughout Women’s Sport Week 2016.
From Clubbercise to football, hockey to pilates, there is a session for you. You could also win a Fitbit by simply registering for a session.

Luton – FREE Badminton course 8th Oct
SmashUp! Activator Training (Badminton England)
A free female only badminton course: 2 hours theory and 2 hours practical course that introduces the use of music in sessions and creates a social hub for you and your friends/family/colleagues to play badminton.

Manchester – This Girl Can – Cycle Coaching
Date: Sunday 9 October 2016

A coaching session for novice riders to improve your group riding. Led by female coaches, this session aims to help women learn from each other and develop their cycling techniques.

Kent – Women on Wheels Novice rider development sessions

Billingham Rugby Women & Girls Pitch Up and Play
Want to try your hand at rugby? Join Billingham’s players, Durham County coaches, and hopefully representatives of the England Women’s team at the club’s Greenwood Road ground on Wednesday 5th October, 6.30pm. All ages and abilities welcome!

Billingham Rugby Club is the top family club in the North East of England, and one of the highest ranked fully amateur teams in the country, with its men’s 1st XV playing in National League 3 North. Billingham’s Womens and Girls Rugby section was re-established in 2015 after a decade of inactivity, and is a Durham County RFU Development Focus Group, aiming to enter the league in 2017.
The Women’s team would love anyone over the age of 18 to come join regular senior training on a Wednesday evening from 6:30pm until 8pm.
The Girls squads, U13, U15 and soon U18, train on a Tuesday evening 5:30pm until 6:30pm.
